FiberHome AN6000 series OLT initial steps
In this post you'll find step by step instructions for initial OLT configuration and for setting up the IP connectivity of the FiberHome AN6000-2, AN6000-7, AN6000-15, AN6000-17, AN6001-G16, AN6001-GF16 and AN6001C-GF16 OLTs. After completing these steps, you'll be ready to connect your OLT to SmartOLT.
1Connect to the OLT
Click to choose how you connect to the OLT
- Serial / Console: a console cable to the CONSOLE port. Use it for a factory-new OLT, or when the OLT has no reachable management IP address.
- Ethernet / Telnet: only for an OLT that is already configured: it has a reachable IP address and an existing account.
Serial / Console connection
From a PC (PuTTY)
- Connect a console cable with the correct pinout to the port labeled CONSOLE. On the AN6000-7, AN6000-15 and AN6000-17 it is on the core switch card. On the AN6000-2 and AN6001-G16, the port is labeled CONSOLE/ESC.
- If your PC has no serial port, use a USB-to-serial adapter.
- Find the COM port of the adapter in Windows Device Manager (Windows+X), under Ports (COM & LPT).
- In PuTTY, select Serial, enter the COM port and the speed. Set the other values under Connection > Serial:
- Speed: 9600
- Data bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop bits: 1
- Flow control: None
- Open the session and press Enter. When the OLT asks for a login, use the credentials supplied by your vendor. The factory defaults are user GEPON and password GEPON.
Through a MikroTik
Use the MikroTik serial console port with a compatible cable to the OLT console port. The cable must match the pinout of both serial ports; an RJ45 connector alone does not establish compatibility. Open a MikroTik Terminal through WinBox or SSH over the network.
- Free the serial port, set the OLT console settings, then open the serial session:
/system console disable [find where port=serial0] /port set serial0 baud-rate=9600 data-bits=8 parity=none stop-bits=1 flow-control=none /system serial-terminal serial0
- Press Ctrl+A, release the keys, then press R to detect the baud rate automatically. Press Enter to reach the OLT console.
To close the serial session, press Ctrl+A, release the keys, then press Q.
Ethernet connection (Telnet)
Use this only when the OLT is already configured. If the OLT has no reachable management IP address, use the serial console.
- Use the network path the OLT is already reachable on: the out-of-band management port if the IP address is configured there, or your existing in-band network. Do not change the cabling of an OLT that is already reachable.
- If you connect your PC directly to the OLT, configure on it a free IP address from the same subnet as the OLT IP address.
- Verify connectivity. You should receive replies.
ping [OLT IP address]
- Connect with PuTTY or from a terminal, using Telnet. Telnet sends everything, including the password, as plain text. Use it only on a direct cable or a trusted management network. In PuTTY, select Telnet and enter the OLT IP address.
telnet [OLT IP address]
- Log in with the existing account of the OLT.
Enter privileged mode
If the prompt ends with ">" instead of "#", enter enable. The default enable password is GEPON, unless it was changed. The prompt changes to Admin#.
Login: GEPON
Password: *****
User> enable
Password: *****
Admin#
Enter configuration mode
All the commands in the next steps run in configuration mode. Enter config. The prompt changes to Admin(config)#.
Admin# config Admin(config)#
2Display and authorize the detected OLT cards
A factory-new OLT detects its cards but does not authorize them. Run show card info to list the detected cards. The output below is an example.
Admin(config)# show card info ---------------------AN6000-17--------------------- CARD EXIST CONFIG DETECT DETAIL 1 YES --- EX8A NO_MATCH 2 YES --- GM8A NO_MATCH 9 YES HSCA HSCA MATCH/M 10 --- HSCA --- --- 13 YES --- GPOA NO_MATCH
Choose one authorization method: authorize all detected cards, or authorize one card.
Authorize all the detected cards with one command:
Admin(config)# card auto-auth Success to set all detected card authed.
To authorize one card only, enter the subrack number and the slot number of the card, then the card type from the DETECT column. For the example above:
Admin(config)# card auth 1/1 EX8A Success to set 1 slot as type EX8A.
Display the cards again. Now your OLT cards should be in MATCH status. MATCH/M is the master core switch card.
Admin(config)# show card info ---------------------AN6000-17--------------------- CARD EXIST CONFIG DETECT DETAIL 1 YES EX8A EX8A MATCH 2 YES GM8A GM8A MATCH 9 YES HSCA HSCA MATCH/M 10 --- HSCA --- --- 13 YES GPOA GPOA MATCH
3Configure a management IP address on the management port or VLAN interface
Use the serial console if changing the IP address or gateway would interrupt your management connection.
Select the interface of the management IP
Connect the OLT and the router with a LAN cable on the dedicated (out-of-band) management port. It is labeled ETH. On the AN6000-7, AN6000-15 and AN6000-17 it is on the core switch card, and the common interface card has a second one, labeled EMS. The management port is an isolated port for management purposes only and cannot carry customer traffic. The OLT software calls it meth 1.
Admin(config)# interface meth 1 Admin(config-if-meth-1)# ip address 10.200.0.2 mask 255.255.255.0 Admin(config-if-meth-1)# show ip address debugip 10.200.0.2 mask 255.255.255.0 Admin(config-if-meth-1)# exit Admin(config)#
Changing the management IP may disconnect Telnet. Reconnect to the new IP address, then run enable and config again.
Add the default gateway:
Use the router address on the selected management interface as the next hop.
Make sure the default gateway IP address 10.200.0.1 is already configured on your router.
Admin(config)# static-route destination-ip 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 nexthop 10.200.0.1
Admin(config)#
4Create a dedicated username/password
This user/pass will be used by SmartOLT to connect to your OLT. The first command creates the user with its password. The second command gives the user the highest level, 15.
Admin(config)# terminal user name smartoltusr (enter a strong password)
Successfully add user smartoltusr.
Admin(config)# terminal user level smartoltusr 15
Admin(config)#
5Save the configuration
Save the configuration, so the OLT keeps it after a restart.
Admin(config)# save Trying save configuration to flash, please wait ...... Admin(config)#
At this stage, your OLT is ready to be interconnected with SmartOLT.
Open your SmartOLT site and go to Settings → OLTs → Add OLT. Select Fiberhome and your OLT model. Enter the management IP, protocol, ports and credentials. Click Save to add and initialize the OLT, or Test connection to add it and check CLI and SNMP access.
Allow SmartOLT to reach the OLT on TCP 23 for Telnet and UDP 161 for SNMP. This guide uses Telnet. For SSH, enable and verify SSH separately; its usual port is TCP 22. With port forwarding, enter the external ports in Add OLT. See Add an OLT in the SmartOLT manual.
SmartOLT uses SNMPv2c with read-only and read-write communities. Keep the generated values in Add OLT. Test connection configures these communities through the CLI.
